When we think about police dogs, we frequently imagine huge and tough animals that do their duties quite well. Dogs working as police K9 units are well-trained and extremely capable of apprehending criminals. They are very skilled at their duties and possess a demeanor that may terrify criminals and suspects.
These canines are bred and trained to serve as police dogs. They are supposed to have the temperament necessary to contribute to the police force. However, nature has a peculiar way of showing us all that each species is unique.
In Queensland, Australia, a German Shepherd named Gavel was undergoing training to join the Queensland police’s top K9 team. Gavel was bred and then raised to become and serve as a police dog, and it was believed that he would be an extraordinary police dog who would aid the police in fighting different types of crime. Unfortunately for those who were training Gavel, no matter how hard they tried, Gavel lacked the temperament and disposition necessary to become a police dog.
The police dog academy had to fail the dog. However, upon learning about Gavel, Queensland Governor Paul de Jersey was a bit disappointed that the dog did not make the cut to become a police dog. Therefore, Governor Paul de Jersey appointed Gavel as the vice-regal dog in his house. Governor de Jersey stated that despite Gavel’s inability to join the police force, he has all the qualifications necessary to become the official vice-regal dog of Queensland.
When Gavel began his job, he showed everyone that he was made for it. Gavel’s responsibilities include greeting visitors at the home and participating in official events.
Gavel lacked the ferocity necessary to combat crime, but his kind demeanor made him an excellent fit for his new position. He cannot get enough of the attention he receives from others, because they really adore him. Gavel may have been fired because he was too friendly, but his virtues secured him not only a new position, but also an excellent one.
