One day in January, Patsy, a six-year-old kelpie-border collie mix, helped save hundreds of sheep from a wildfire in Corryong, Victoria, Australia. After reading about her heroic deeds on her Instagram account, a number of Internet users praised her and what she had done. People from Australia and other nations offered her thousands of virtual hugs and belly massages on her social media accounts.
On New Year’s Eve in Corryong, Australia, a farmer named Stephen Hill observed bushfires approaching his sister’s farm at around four in the morning. In Victoria’s Upper Murray, the wildfire became out of control and wreaked havoc. Residents consider it one of the most horrific fires they can recall.
Patsy and Stephen instantly boarded their tractor and headed to the burning farm. There, they discovered hundreds of sheep roaming the countryside. She assisted Stephen in rounding up the sheep and transporting them to a safe location in the pasture. Patsy rushed far and wide to round up the scattered flock of sheep.
Patsy, the heroic working dog, led the disoriented herd to safety as Stephen fought the flames with his water tank. She managed to save nearly all of the animals, as well as the hay bundles and silage. Fortunately, the fire saved both the shearing shed and the farmhouses.
During the summer, wildfires frequently ravage the outback of Australia. Every year, up to a half-billion animals are killed in such catastrophic fires, according to records. In the aftermath of bushfires throughout the state, endangered and critically endangered fauna become casualties.
Cath Hill, the sister of Stephen, put on social media a request for funds to assist the local community in recovering from the tragedy. Patsy’s newfound prominence resulted in a generous response to their request for charity. They currently refer to her as the Corryong Wonder Dog.
